Evidence shows 28% of people are cutting back on insurance as they can't afford it

A survey by Close Premium Finance has revealed that over the past 12 months, 28% of people had been cutting back on their insurance arrangements, because they simply could not afford it.

In addition, some 15% of people had completely cancelled a policy of  insurance cover because of costs. The most likely age group to reduce or cancel insurance arrangements were 18-24 year olds.

The vast majority related to household insurance, but motor insurance cover still accounted for 8% of the surveyed people.

According to the AA British Insurance Premium Index, the average motor insurance premium in the UK in the 2nd quarter of 2014 was £504.29
